Richard Craig has developed a distinctive approach to the flute, collaborating with composers to develop new works for the instrument. Born in Glasgow, he studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and then at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg with Mario Caroli. Richard is currently a Lecturer and Director of Performance at the University of Edinburgh. I am a composer and performer. The flute is my main instrument. This residency is particularly interesting to me because I am studying shakuhachi, and using the experience of learning the instrument to develop new works of my own that incorporate or reference the shakuhachi and its very particular musical language.
