ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: Rocky Redwood

Rocky Redwood
Canada
October 13th to November 24th

Rocky Redwood is a Yukon-born, Aotearoa-raised artist. Her work uses natural sculptural materials–currently beeswax, ceramic, and textile–to create objects that are tangible, interactive, and organic. Her work responds to oppositional and inter-related landscapes, communities, and loved ones, which exist for her in a drastic duality.

The process of wood firing gives such rich context to a work, imbuing a static object with so many layers of action and intentionality only for it to come up against the unpredictability of the anagama. It gives the final works a spiritual heft/weight they would otherwise not have.
