ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: Lena-Franziska Eckerlein

Lena-Franziska Eckerlein

Germany

Stay: August 11th to September 22nd

Lena-Franziska Eckerlein is an artist and researcher based in Frankfurt am Main. With a B.Sc. in Biosciences focusing on Plant Physiology and Molecular Biology, she is currently completing her M.A. in Art–Media–Cultural Education at Goethe University Frankfurt (expected October 2025).
Her practice explores the intersection of natural science and artistic expression.

During the residency at Shiro Oni Studio, I aim to expand and deepen my ongoing material research in clay, porcelain, and glazes by grounding it more explicitly in the site-specific ecology and material culture of the region. My background in molecular plant physiology, coupled with my artistic work in ceramics, has led me to a practice that navigates the threshold between scientific inquiry and material-based artistic exploration.
