ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: Katie Zwick

I’m an artist and designer based in Brooklyn, New York. With a BFA in Illustration and a professional background in product design, I approach my ceramic practice with a unique perspective, combining functional forms with playful decoration. I create hand-built ceramic forms that are defined by expressive, illustrative glazing and organic textures.

My primary goal is to deepen my current exploration of hand-built forms, specifically coil-built and pinched vessels, while also experimenting with new techniques inspired by Onishi. In particular, I’d like to explore concepts of nature, texture, impression, and memory through clay. During the residency, I would seek to build a strong community with my fellow artists, sharing my knowledge of hand-building and learning from their diverse backgrounds and practices.
