I am a potter living and working in rural North Northumberland, creating wheel-thrown stoneware inspired by the playful, harsh, and often surprising landscape I call home. Fired in a small electric kiln, my pieces draw from local folk tales, historical fashion, and, above all, my love of food. My intention is to investigate ceramics through a lens of tailoring and fabric, using both modern and historical reference points. This project is not about ceramics as accessories, but about exploring the fabric-like qualities of clay, how its fluidity during the making process can be shaped, and how that movement is preserved and transformed once the piece is fired, ultimately influencing its function and purpose.

私はイギリス北部・ノーサンバーランドの田舎で暮らし活動する陶芸家です。ホームと言うべき身近な土地の遊び心がありときに厳しく思いがけない表情を見せる風景に影響を受けながら、ろくろを使った陶器を制作しています。小さな電気窯で焼き上げる作品には、地域に伝わる民話や歴史的な服飾、そして何より私の食べることへの愛が込められています。私は、鬼石という土地に根ざした絵画シリーズを制作したいと考えています。そこに暮らす人々、商店、川、家々、光、空模様など、この場所ならではの風景を描いてみたいです。これまで私は、自分にとってこれほど新しい土地を題材に作品制作をした経験はありません。そのため、シロオニスタジオでの制作を通して、自分の表現や作品のコンセプトがどのように変化し発展していくのかを発見できることをとても楽しみにしています。
