Erin Shigaki is a yonsei (fourth generation Japanese American) artist born and raised on Duwamish land (Seattle, WA). She earned a B.A. from Yale University, did post graduate work in art and design at American University, followed by more than a decade of work as a graphic designer and art educator in New York City.

For the past handful of years I have reignited a ceramic handbuilding practice. Working with my hands in clay and learning to embrace the unpredictability of glazing and firing is the antithesis of being on the computer. Overall, I believe my time at Shiro Oni will provide space to read, write, and think deeply about new liberation projects.
