Ceramics

I’m a ceramicist based in Los Angeles, working with clay to create forms that reflect the raw, tactile nature of the material. I’m drawn to worn surfaces and earthen textures — qualities that evoke a sense of place, time, and resilience. My practice is rooted in experimentation, allowing each piece to emerge as a balance between control and unpredictability.

I see my work as a collaboration between myself, the material, and the person who lives with it. The fragile nature of the ceramics is intentional; over time, they may erode, chip, or change — a slow unfolding that mirrors the plasticity of nature itself. I welcome that evolution as part of the piece’s life.

Through each vessel, I try to create a space for imperfection and intimacy — objects that carry the memory of their making and invite a lasting, lived-in relationship.

At Shiro Oni, I hope to create work that responds directly to the natural environment of Onishi — to its surrounding mountains, forests, air, and earth. The work itself will be thrown on a wheel, but altered to enhance and showcase the natural inconsistencies in the clay body. My time there would be equal parts making, experimenting, and listening to the clay, to the kiln, and to the environment itself. Ultimately, I see this residency as an opportunity to slow down, work responsively, and create pieces that hold the quiet memory of place.

私はロサンゼルスを拠点とする陶芸家で、私の作品は粘土という素材の持つ生々しく触覚的な性質を反映しています。摩耗した表面や大地のような質感に惹かれ、それらは場所や時間そして持続する力を想像させます。私の制作活動は実験的で、それぞれの作品はコントロールと予測のつかない結果の間のバランスに表現されます。

私の作品は、自分自身、素材、そしてそれを共に生きる人とのコラボレーションだと考えています。陶器の壊れやすさは必然なものであり、時間とともに侵食され、欠け、変化していくもの。それはゆっくりとした自然の適応力を映し出しているようです。私はその変化を作品の命の一部として受け入れます。

それぞれの器を通して、不完全さと親密さのための余白を生み出したいと考えています。制作の記憶を宿し、使う人との持続的で生活に根ざした関係を促すような存在でありたいのです。

シロオニでは、鬼石の自然、周囲の山々、森、空気、大地に直接呼応する作品を生み出したいと考えています。作品自体はろくろで成形しますが、土そのものが持つ自然なゆらぎを引き立て、際立たせるように手を加えていきます。滞在中は、制作と実験を行うと同時に、粘土や窯、そしてこの土地の環境そのものに耳を傾ける時間を大切にしたいと思っています。最終的には、このレジデンスでは、歩みを緩め、状況に応じて制作し、その場所の静かな記憶を宿す作品を生み出す機会と捉えています。
