Stone seal carving / printmaking

Michelle JN Lim is a Singaporean artist, writer and curator whose current interests lie in exploring the expressive potential of the traditional stone seal. This miniature art form has long been seen as a subsidiary element to its larger-scale siblings, calligraphy and painting – yet its ability to contain poetic multitudes within its diminutive form make it a fascinating art form in its own right.

Most recently, Michelle curated Carving Possibilities, an exhibition featuring some 300 seal carving works by 31 artists at de Suantio Gallery, Singapore Management University, in 2023. She has also been part of the Affordable Art Fair’s Young Talent Programme and a winner of the Noise Singapore Award, and has exhibited at Coda Culture (2019), Mulan Gallery (2016), The Substation (2016 & 2020) in Singapore, and Grimmuseum (2011) in Berlin. Michelle received her BFA (Studio Art) from New York University.
