Hannah Fischer is a clay sculptor who interprets mimetic phenomena from the organic world. A detailed study of her work evokes blooms, bodies, and other temporary habitations that exist within her imagination. Created using hand-building techniques, all pieces exhibit a gentle symmetry while hinting at stranger, alien evolutions of matter.

I received a grant through the University I’m attending to study traditional, ecologically based craft. This is a self-directed, interdisciplinary project that I am undertaking. I aim to conduct ethnographic research during my travels, while also acquiring artistic skills and resources to share my practices in the future. I am interested in developing social theories centered on place-based relationships and how they promote social resilience. My experience with ceramics has been shaped by my mentor, who was raised in Japan and retained a deep appreciation for land and craftsmanship that she passed on to me. I aim to deepen my understanding of these centuries-long traditions, while also exploring their contemporary role in ceramics on a global scale.

ハナ・フィッシャーは、自然界の模倣現象を通訳するクレイ・スカルプターです。彼女の作品を詳しく見ると、想像の中に存在する花の開花や身体、その他の一時的な生物世界が浮かび上がります。手びねりの技法で制作されるすべての作品には穏やかな対称性がありつつも、物質の奇妙で異質な進化の兆しを感じさせます。

私は在籍している大学から助成金を受け、伝統的で環境に根ざした工芸を学んでいます。このプロジェクトは自己主導型で多分野に渡る取り組みであり、旅の中で民族学的な調査を行うとともに、将来的にこれらの実践を共有するための芸術的スキルや資源を習得することを目的としています。

特に、土地に根ざした関係性を中心に据えた社会理論を探求し、それがどのように社会のレジリエンス（回復力）を促進するかに関心があります。私の陶芸経験は、日本で育った師匠から受け継いだもので、土地や職人技に対する深い敬意が私にも伝えられました。このプロジェクトを通じて、こうした何世紀にもわたる伝統の理解を深めつつ、現代の陶芸におけるその役割を世界的な視点から探求したいと考えています。
