I began my creative journey at 12, launching a stop-motion animation YouTube channel, “TheLeoLegendary10,” which amassed 550K subscribers. As I approached a crossroads in my career, I decided to focus my creativity on more meaningful storytelling. When my friend Jae was attacked upon returning from South Korea, it fueled my frustration with rising anti-Asian hate, galvanized by COVID. What started as a small project grew into a documentary, “Go Back To Your Country”, exploring the struggles of Montreal’s Asian working class. Centered in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal), it addresses themes of decay, tranquility, and retaliation. Screened at Concordia University in May 2022, it inspired me to write Up All Night, a grounded short film about Jae, a Korean singer navigating his failures. Featuring three languages, it reflects Montreal’s multilingual identity and the challenges of Asian diaspora in Quebec.
