I am Ella Nathan, a textile designer & artist based in the UK, specialising in surface and pattern design for interiors. My work celebrates the tactile qualities and integral charm of hand-painted and printed designs. I would like to discover how I can combine my pattern design sensibilities with ceramic surfaces, exploring how drawing, colour and texture can live on three-dimensional forms. At Shiro Oni Studio, I plan to approach my practice with openness and curiosity, using the time and space to rediscover the joy of making. My background in textiles gives me a strong grounding in pattern and colour, but I’m eager to explore how these sensibilities might evolve in clay and three-dimensional form, as well as through other workshops.

私はイギリスを拠点に活動するテキスタイルデザイナー／アーティストのエラ・ネイサンです。主にインテリアのためのテキスタイルや表面装飾のデザインを制作しています。手描きやプリントによる表現ならではの質感や魅力を大切にしています。今回の滞在では、パターンデザインの感覚を陶芸の表面表現とどのように組み合わせられるのかを探求したいと考えています。ドローイングや色彩、質感が、立体的なフォルムの上でどのように生きるのかを実験してみたいです。シロオニスタジオでは、オープンマインドと好奇心を持って制作に取り組み、ものづくりの楽しさをあらためて見つめ直す時間にしたいと考えています。今までのキャリアの中で、私はこれまで模様や色彩を基盤とした制作を行ってきましたが、その感覚が粘土や立体作品の中でどのように発展していくのか、また他のワークショップを通してどのように広がっていくのかを探求したいと思っています。
