I work primarily on the pottery wheel, making both functional wares for daily ritual and sculptural forms inspired by nature’s cycles and and to the recurring geometry within the natural world. I’m drawn to simple shapes, and I use very little glaze to celebrate the beauty of fired clay – a neutral transmitter of light and shadow.

I think carefully about how objects meet the body: how a cup is held in the hand, where the thumb rests on a wooden handle, how weight, line, and curve guide use. I want to make objects that encourage direct interaction and a quiet appreciation of raw material.

I would like to develop my ongoing project, Moon Diaries. Last year I made a work of twelve undulating moon jars reflecting the changing lunar phases. I would like to revisit these forms at Shiro Oni, perhaps conceiving the work at a larger scale and playing with arrangements to create a kind of ritual space. I’m also keen to experiment with light and shadow – different installations whether on the wall or on the floor.

My sculptural work responds to lunar, seasonal and cosmic change, and to nature’s repeated patterns. I’m especially drawn to the spiral – a form that appears everywhere from shells to weather systems to galaxies. By gathering forms into imaginative landscapes, I aim to reveal something both magical and unsettling: a reminder of deep time, our smallness within it, and the peace that can come with accepting the inevitability of change.

私は主にろくろを用いて制作し、日々の営みに寄り添う実用的な器と、自然の循環や自然界に繰り返し現れる幾何学に着想を得た造形作品の両方を手がけています。シンプルなかたちに惹かれ、焼成された土そのものがもつ美しさ、光と影を静かに映し出す中立的な存在を大切にするため、釉薬は最小限にとどめています。

また、ものが身体とどのように関わるかについても丁寧に考えています。たとえば、カップを手に持ったときの感触や、木製の取っ手に親指が触れる位置、重さや線、曲線がどのように使い方を導くのかといった点です。素材そのものと直接向き合い、静かに味わうことを促すような作品をつくりたいと考えています。

現在進めているプロジェクト「ムーン・ダイアリーズ」をさらに発展させたいと考えています。昨年は、移ろいゆく月の様子を映し出す、うねるような形のムーンジャーを12点制作しました。シロオニではこれらの形をあらためて探求し、より大きなスケールでの展開や、配置の工夫によって儀式的な空間のようなものを作りたいと思っています。また、壁面や床面など、さまざまな設置方法を通して、光と影の表現にも積極的に取り組みたいです。

私の立体作品は、月の満ち欠けや季節、宇宙的な変化、そして自然界に繰り返し現れるパターンに呼応しています。とりわけ螺旋という形に強く惹かれています。それは貝殻から気象現象、さらには銀河に至るまで、あらゆるスケールで現れる形です。こうしたフォルムを空想的な風景として集積することで、どこか神秘的でありながら不穏さもはらんだ感覚を表現したいと考えています。それは、悠久の時間の流れや、その中でどれだけ人間が小さな存在であるかと言うこと、そして不可避である変化を受け入れることで訪れる静けさを思い起こさせるものです。
