Ceramics

Sibylla “Billie” Robertson is an artist living and working on Gadigal and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung land. Robertson’s practice is driven by the chemical possibilities of glaze and the dual history of ceramics as both sacred artifacts and everyday objects. Interested in the absence of tactile interaction and the tension of ceramic objects within the fine art world, their work is positioned within a broader discourse on material hierarchies, commercialism and culture, engaging with mythmaking and the aesthetics of desire.
Sibylla Robertson completed their Master of Fine Art at the National Art School in 2021, where they received the Mansfield Ceramic Prize (2019), and the N.E. Petheridge Award (2021). Robertson has exhibited in various group shows internationally, including “Cut N Polish”, Carriageworks, Sydney (2022, 2023), “Say—sweet silence” Altehandelschule, Germany (2023), “It’s Nothing Personal”, Seventh Gallery, Melbourne (2024), and was a recent resident artist at kil.n.it experimental ceramics studio’s Ceramics Exchange program.
